Bartimaeus Hears Jesus

"Bartimaeus Hears Jesus!"

(Based on Mark 10:46–52)

Narrator (you):
A long time ago, in a town called Jericho, there was a man named Bartimaeus.
Can you say his name with me?
“Bar-ti-mae-us!”

(Let kids repeat: “Bar-ti-mae-us!”)

Bartimaeus was a kind man, but he had one big problem…
He could not see.
Can you cover your eyes like Bartimaeus?

(Everyone covers eyes)
He sat by the road every day, listening to people walk by.

Bartimaeus would call out,
“Can someone help me? I can’t see!”

One day, Bartimaeus heard something different…
STOMP, STOMP, STOMP!
Lots and lots of feet were walking by.

He asked,
“What’s happening?”

Someone said,
“Jesus is coming!”

Bartimaeus got SO excited!
He began to shout,
“Jesus! Help me! Jesus! Help me!”

(Encourage kids to shout with you: “Jesus! Help me!”)

The people around him said,
“Shh! Be quiet, Bartimaeus!”

But Bartimaeus didn’t stop—no way!
He shouted even louder:
“JESUS! HELP ME!”

And guess what?
Jesus heard him!
Jesus stopped walking.

Jesus said,
“Bring that man to Me.”

Bartimaeus jumped up—he was so happy!
He threw off his old coat and ran to Jesus.
Jesus said,
“What do you want Me to do for you?”

Bartimaeus said,
“I want to see!”

Jesus smiled and said,
“Because you believe in Me, you can see!”
Right away—POP!—Bartimaeus could see!

(Kids uncover their eyes and say “POP!”)

Bartimaeus was SO happy!
He followed Jesus down the road, smiling the whole way.

Let’s all say:
“Thank You, Jesus!”
(Kids repeat: “Thank You, Jesus!”)

LESSON:

Even when others told him to be quiet, Bartimaeus kept calling out to Jesus.
And Jesus listened—He always hears us when we pray!
