A Coin and a Fish

30 Minutes of Fun and Learning- This is to prepare the child for Sabbath School. Each day a new agenda will appear. Use the Program Music for all of these songs. This will allow the children to practice these songs for Sabbath School. We have some exciting sensory activities for our upcoming Sabbath School for our Beginners!

  • Plastic fish toys (or paper cutouts with slits)
  • Plastic gold coins
  • Bin with water beads, rice, or shredded paper

Hide a coin inside or under each fish. Let the toddlers dig through the bin and "catch" the fish to find the coin. Every time a child finds one, you can say:
"Just like Peter found a coin in the fish's mouth!"

Teaches: God's provision in surprising ways.

Lesson:
Sometimes God provides for us in ways we don't expect! Just like Peter found the coin in the fish's mouth, we can trust that God always knows what we need and how to help us.

Key Thought: “God gives us what we need!”

  • A small “pond” area

Instructions:
Kids take turns “fishing.” After they catch a fish, read the message aloud and talk about it briefly.

Teaches: Lessons in kindness, obedience, and trust.

Lesson:
Peter listened to Jesus and obeyed—even though it sounded a little silly. We can listen to Jesus too, and show kindness to others just like He teaches us.

Key Thought: “I can follow Jesus and be kind!”

Jesus helped Peter do something important—pay for the temple tax! That reminds us we can help others and use what we have to do good things for God.

Key Thought: “I can help and give like Jesus!”

Reading

  • Song- I open my Bible Carefully
  • Helping God's House
    • "Peter and Jesus needed to give a coin to the temple. The temple is God's special house! Jesus told Peter to go fishing. And guess what? The fish had just what they needed-a coin! Let's pretend to toss our coins into the temple basket, just like Peter. Peter gave what he had to help. We can give too-our toys, our hugs, our help. What can you give? Big Idea: I can help and give like Jesus!"
